Kitchen Remodel in Bouldin Creek, Austin TX 78704
This South Congress duplex sits in the heart of Austin's Bouldin Creek neighborhood -- just steps from South Congress Avenue, one of Austin's most beloved stretches of local shops, restaurants, and live music venues. The property is an investment home owned by the same client behind the Lake Austin Bungalow project. The original 1983 kitchen was closed in with soffits, a pony wall, and an end wall that made the space feel dated and cramped. Owner Bert Bell reworked the plan to modernize the kitchen, improve the flow, and create a clean, durable design built to hold up as a rental.
Everything came out from floor to ceiling. The soffits, pony wall, and end wall were all removed to open the kitchen, and electrical and plumbing were rerouted and upgraded throughout. New flooring was installed on the first floor, and the entire duplex interior was repainted to give the home a fresh, cohesive finish.
The new kitchen features frameless slab-style cabinetry to the ceiling, Grey Expo Silestone countertops -- a polished medium grey quartz with subtle speckling and excellent stain resistance -- a linear stone-and-glass backsplash, stainless steel appliances, and recessed plus under-cabinet LED lighting throughout. The result is a bright, open investment property kitchen that feels significantly more modern than its 1983 starting point -- and a client who keeps coming back to KBB for more.

"I have used Bert Bell for 3 remodel jobs (personal residence and 2 investment properties), and also referred him to my brother for a large bathroom remodel. Bert is very detailed, always responsive, and does excellent work. I wouldn't hesitate to recommend him for any remodel or new-build project.”- Chris R. (Austin, Texas)
