Kitchen Remodel in Sunset Valley, Austin TX 78745

This Sunset Valley home had a closed-off kitchen separated from the dining and living areas by two major walls and an exposed load-bearing beam that dominated the space. The homeowners wanted an open, modern layout with more natural light and better flow throughout the main living area. Owner Bert Bell reworked the entire plan, finalizing scope and selections before demo to keep the project organized from start to finish.

Both walls came out completely. Rather than leaving the load-bearing beam exposed or boxing it in, the trusses were modified and a new structural beam was installed above ceiling height -- creating a clean, completely unobstructed open space. The doorway to the garage was also relocated to expand the kitchen wall and improve the overall layout. A new four-panel picture window was added to bring in backyard views and natural light, with custom buffet-style storage cabinets installed below.

The new kitchen centers on an 11.5-foot island with seating, a granite composite sink, quartz countertops, built-in dishwasher, and double trash roll-out. Frameless white shaker cabinetry runs throughout, and hardwood flooring was added to tie the open kitchen, dining, and living areas together into one cohesive space.

The finished Sunset Valley kitchen remodel is open, bright, and dramatically more functional -- on budget, on schedule, and better than the homeowners dreamed.
