Galley Kitchen Remodel -- Travis Heights, Austin TX 78704
This 1962 Travis Heights home still had its original galley kitchen -- orange-stained cabinets, wood panel walls, and a layout that cut the space off from the rest of the home. The homeowners wanted something brighter and more open, with a real connection to the living and dining areas. Owner Bert Bell reworked the entire plan from the framing out, locking in scope and selections before demo began.
Everything came out down to the studs. The pass-through to the living room was widened for a broader visual connection, and the wall to the dining area was opened to break the galley free of its original footprint. The rebuilt kitchen features shaker cabinetry in Benjamin Moore Revere Pewter, Blue Flower granite countertops, a 4x12 herringbone tile backsplash, black stainless KitchenAid appliances, and 6x36 Artisan Dark Tan tile flooring installed throughout the entire house for a seamless finish.
The project went well beyond the kitchen. We upgraded the home's systems throughout -- adding a tankless water heater, whole-house water softener, kitchen sink filtration, and an instant hot water system in the master bath. A custom office desk and new walnut fireplace mantel were also designed and built to tie the updated spaces together.
The result is a home that finally matches its neighborhood -- open, modern, and completely transformed from its 1962 starting point.

"We’re thrilled with our new kitchen and the experience we had with Kitchens by Bell! At our first meeting with Bert we were impressed with his knowledge, optimism and enthusiasm for kitchen remodeling. And as expected, his involvement contributed to an outcome that was far better than what we imagined it could be. Despite being a picky client, Bert and his team exceeded expectations on every single detail. Our kitchen is exponentially more enjoyable and functional, and we’re proud for having it designed and built by Bert and KbyB!” (See full review under “Testimonials”) – Rod & Rick (Austin, TX}
